Round Head

"So..Little Miss - what does your friend Mason look like?" "Well Mom, he has a round head, and hair." Excellent - that narrows it down from all the triangle shaped heads in her class.

Sleep child

Sleep child and when you do
Dream a dream to drift you through
The night that lingers through the day
Tonight, dreams of you
I'll sing this lullaby for you
Sleep child, for dreams always come true.

First Day of School

"the bus ride seemed long because I had jumpy frogs in my belly"

"the bubbles take the germs away" (when you wash your hands)

"one girl had a ROUND sandwich - and it WAS NOT a cheeseburger!"

"I did not have to go to the principal's office at all today!"

Mama? Dada! - repeat!

So - just realised my little man's lastest trick and my efforts to teach him "Mama" have been foiled.

For months - everytime I say "Mama" ...Little Miss would very quickly say "Dada"...as her father put her in charge of teaching his name. So no surprise when he did say it first (which is ok - that is normal)...

BUT - now I have realised when we say "mama" he says "dada" in reponse..the same way Little Miss has been doing for months.

They have been testing this theory out all day!

Missed a part

Yesterday, Little Miss and I had a serious conversation regarding death & burial. This morning I hear her tell her father "Today is going to be a sad day, we have to bury Grampie's sister."...and in a bright chirpy voice "I"M going bring MY shovel!!!!"....

Guess I missed explaining that part..

Photo Challenge

My friend Jude did a photo challenge for the month of June entitled "the kids were here". I love the images and how is captures the everyday life (that is often annoying - how many times did I ask you to put that away?) and makes it beautiful. I am going to attempt to capture our life in this method for the month of July...

in the meantime- please visit Jude's blog to see her beautiful photos,

Monster Mama

Little Miss says to Dad this morning "I woke up and I didn't know Mama was home and I went into your room and saw brown hair and thought if it is a monster I will call it Mama."

All thumbs?

Well one thumb anyone. As you can see I have a very swollen DIP joint in my thumb - due to psoriatic arthritis. I am in the midst of a flare. I have not found many other blogging Moms out there with Arthritis...where are you ladies?

It is very hard to not use your thumb with a 5 month old and a 5 year old. Looking for suggestions for splinting for resting it.

Something Beautiful, Mommy

I gave little Miss a few "popping mini eggs" today - they fizz in your mouth. I didn't tell her they were any different. You should have seen the look on her face "Mommy, these eggs are making something beautiful happen in my head!"

A wee bit of Seuss

We finally set up the crib for the little man...he shares a room with his big sister. He feels the crib is just a climbing apparatus at the moment. I did some drawings for him to look at. I haven't drawn anything in ages so you do not get to look too closely...and bonus - Big Sister also loves the Cat in the Hat!!!

I saw this cute kit today, we made our own version of it drawing the rabbits and using scrapbook paper and stickers.

Here is a picture we took with the webcam...

Win a Photo Session!!

What makes life large is the ordinary moments that make up each and every day. The simple, small and sometimes mundane aspects of home life, my hope is for you to see the beauty in those small things. One day you will look back and know they were the big things in life. What I would like is for you to send an email to jude@theartofdesign.ca and write a little about the small moments that make your life big. For instance, what moments challenge you…inspire you…make your heart bubble over with joy? What are the moments in your life right now that you would like to preserve for a lifetime?

Impromptu Photos

After my camera arrived home yesterday I was itching to play around with some settings again. Little Miss was busy with her Dad - so I grabbed my Little Man and took a few photos. We were in Little Miss' room - terrible lighting for photos. It has a 3 bulb ceiling lamp - and the room is very small.

F-stop 4.5 ISO 1600 WB Tungsten

I did try adjusting the ISO/F-stop - but given the light in this room this was the only way the photos were bright enough. As I imported them into the computer I could really see the grain. This you cannot really see on the little LCD on the camera.

My next attempt I will be hunting for some natural light and use lower ISO setting for a smoother finish.

I also have to calibrate my monitor - (that is correcting your monitor colour to a print)...I have been using a laptop lately and find it very hard to colour correct on it. May have to fire up the iMac again...
